On Saturday I had the pleasure of participating in the Deep South Convening. It was a day of deep discussions about what the future of writing, Southern writing in particular, holds and how we can have our unique stories heard – and respected – outside the South.
Crystal Wilkinson, who’s most recent book is Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts: Stories and Recipes from Five Generations of Black Country Cooks, was the keynote speaker, and the discussion was led by her former student and Birmingham poet Tania De’Shawn.
